Suspense: The Hitchhiker

’Suspense Theatre’ was one of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, and was subtitled "radio’s outstanding theater of thrills,". The series focussed on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 are extant in mostly high-quality recordings.

The episode "The Hitchhiker," originally aired on September 2, 1942. Orson Welles played the character who is stalked on a cross-country drive by a nondescript man who keeps appearing on the side of the road.

The Il Piccolo Players performance on Septemebr 19th 2008 featured Richard Chapman as the hapless Ronald Adams. The show was directed by John Paul Poritz.
